Devices and Printers hangs

Solution If the Devices and Printers windows hangs in Windows 7 or 2008 R2, the first recommended step is to enable the Bluetooth Support Service in services.msc. However, we have found this does not always work.

If you find yourself in the same situation, we recommend installing the Microsoft patch attached to this article. It was found at and is supposed to address "The Devices and Printers window stops responding (hangs) after you disable the Bluetooth Support service in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2". While it seems based on this title that enabling Bluetooth Support should fix the issue before having to install this patch, we found that installing the patch was necessary. Further, the systems we were having issues on were desktops that had never had Bluetooth enabled. 7/Windows Server2008 R2 SP1/sp2/Fix391995/7600/free/441767_intl_i386_zip.exe
